Project

HORIZON is a cutting-edge web platform designed to enhance the efficiency of project execution by POMINI Long Rolling Mills, as well as to optimize productivity and operational maintenance at the customer’s site. This solution, built as a Single Page Application (SPA), leverages the latest coding platforms and technologies, and can be deployed both in the Cloud (Azure) and on-premises. HORIZON features a centralized mathematical engine that encapsulates the know-how of POMINI Long Rolling Mills, along with a series of modules that add specific functionalities. All of this is coordinated and interconnected through the Digital Twin of the customer’s facility. HORIZON allows for the creation and management of Digital Twins for all clients, facilitating the integration of functionalities to ensure better management during the development phase, as well as improved productivity and maintenance during production.

Scenario

The optimization of plant efficiency and productivity is a key factor for a competitive and innovative Industry 4.0. In this context, the HORIZON platform, a Single Page Application (SPA) based on Azure, plays a crucial role. The system addresses the client’s needs for accelerating the development of rolling mills, centralizing various functions, and providing a solution capable of integrating with other systems while processing data from different formats and sources. 

Challenges

The main challenges of the project were:   

  • Creating a single solution usable by both POMINI Long Rolling Mills and its clients, avoiding data and functionality duplication;   
  • Developing a scalable and modular platform, easily integrable with both existing and future systems to enhance data analysis and decision-making processes;   
  • Strengthening and centralizing various functions previously performed through dedicated desktop tools;   
  • Reducing the development time of structures for rolling mills by calculating numerical formulas to optimize machine performance, supported by graph and real-time simulations

Results

Plant management encompasses various aspects, including production line design and configuration, production monitoring, and product simulation.  

The main features developed are: 

  • Digital Twin Editor: An intuitive graphical tool for creating synoptic plant diagrams using drag-and-drop functionality. This editor uses elements and equipment from catalogs, establishes relationships, and optimizes the configuration of the digital twin. With its simple and intuitive configurability, it supports effective decision-making.
  • Mathematical Engines: Developed using the most suitable languages (Typescript and Python), these engines synthesize POMINI Long Rolling Mills’ know-how.
  • Role and Permission Customization: Engineers and clients of POMINI Long Rolling Mills can access the platform with customized roles and permissions, allowing them to view, modify configurations, and manage production.
  • Catalog Design: This supports engineers in designing new production lines. Catalogs can be extended by adding third-party materials required for plant design.
  • EVO Roll Master Module: Enables production simulation, from creation and modification to managing rolling processes. It allows for offline simulation followed by transmitting parameters to the production environment.
  • Synoptic Dashboard: Dedicated to production visualization, with filtering options based on production lines and other relevant criteria. This tool displays machines related to specific productions, along with their data and real-time metrics for each machine.
  • Cloud-Ready Solution: A Docker-based system that can be installed at the client’s site or as a hybrid solution, partially cloud-based.

During the development of the HORIZON project, Teoresi demonstrated expertise and professionalism, continuously proposing cutting-edge solutions to meet increasingly complex requirements and keeping the project aligned with the latest available technologies. With Teoresi, we experienced a process of continuous evolution, and their operational flexibility allowed POMINI Long Rolling Mills to achieve a comprehensive and innovative product, ready to adapt to and meet the demands of the market.
