Face to face with the future: the STEM students from Quarini school discovering Teoresi
CorporateWhat happens when a middle school class meets the world of technological innovation? We had the opportunity to find out, hosting a group of young students from the “Quarini” middle school, part of the “Chieri IV” Comprehensive School, for an afternoon dedicated to curiosity and discovery.
On the afternoon of January 22, the Leonardo hall at our Turin headquarters came alive with the voices and curious gazes of the students. After a brief introduction by Beatrice Borgia, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Teoresi and a former student of the same school, the students began their journey into the heart of technology.
Live inspiration: Alessia’s story
Prompted by the students’ eager questions, Alessia Longo, a researcher and Engineer in Teoresi’s Innovation team shared her educational journey, which culminated in a thesis project at Teoresi that opened the doors to a career in technological innovation. With enthusiasm and authenticity, she described the challenges she faced and the opportunities provided by the STEM field, demonstrating how curiosity and determination can turn a passion into a fulfilling profession full of concrete achievements.
Hands-on future: demonstrations and prototypes
Demonstrations and prototypes, presented by Alessia Longo, Valeria Proietti and Angela Di Fazio, turned technology into a game of discovery, engaging the students with both practical and fascinating experiences:
- Remote rehabilitation: a platform designed to guide users through rehabilitation exercises remotely, providing precise feedback thanks to artificial intelligence.
- Smart refrigerator: a glimpse of the future of our homes. With its interactive screens, it demonstrated how a simple household appliance can simplify daily organization by allowing users to add notes or shopping lists.
- Stress detection sensor: students were able to monitor how their bodies responded during a game using a stress detection sensor. The experiment sparked curiosity and fun as they challenged each other with tongue twisters!
- Smart cars in action: the autonomous driving demo transported the students into a future where cars care for passengers, communicate with their surroundings, and move independently.
Unveiling the secrets of automotive technology
In the Testing & Validation lab, guided by Santi Toscano, Sonia Panetta and Sergio Micalizzi, the young guests got an up-close look at the technologies hidden inside a car: electronic control units, parking assistance systems and disassembled components. By the end of the day, the Leonardo hall had emptied, but the students’ curiosity and interest were still palpable. The experience showed them how technology can turn ideas into innovative solutions for the future. We hope to have sparked their passion for a career in technology – and perhaps even a future at Teoresi!
