Teoresi with universities and companies for the creation of the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility
CorporateIn the month of June 2022, Teoresi has reached an important milestone by participating in the creation of the National Centre for Sustainable Mobility, promoted by Politecnico di Milano, one of the first National Centers ready to implement the measures established in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP), and born to drive the green and digital transition of the mobility.
Teoresi joins the big project by the National Center, together with 25 universities and research centers and 24 major companies, including the Fiat Research Center, Iveco Group, Leonardo, Hitachi Rail, Thales Alenia Space, Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, Autostrade per l’Italia, Intesa San Paolo, Unipolsai Assicurazioni, Poste Italiane and other leading companies in the world of mobility and infrastructure.
The scenario and the center’s goals
Among the main challenges posed to the world of research and business regarding the mobility of the future is certainly to drastically reduce emissions with a view to achieving the highest possible level of sustainability globally.
Future mobility is one of the areas where the research and industrial worlds are called upon to find solutions that can ensure a globally feasible level of sustainability through a drastic reduction in emissions.
The National Center for Sustainable Mobility will act as an innovative ecosystem structured according to the model of Hub (with its central management in Milan) and Spokes (14 research nodes distributed throughout Italy) with the mission of making the mobility system „greener“ as a whole and more „digital“ in its management, through innovative solutions such as electric and hydrogen propulsion systems, or digital assisted and autonomous driving systems, with the aim of reducing the number of accidents, through more effective solutions for public transportation and proposing a new model of accessible and inclusive mobility.
This is an investment of 394 million euros over the three-year period 2023-2025 and will involve about 700 dedicated researchers and 600 newly hired.
Teoresi’s commitment
Air mobility (especially in urban environments), road vehicles with new propulsion systems, and infrastructure, with a view to interconnected, cooperative, and sustainable mobility, will be the three technological areas in which we will participate.
Specifically, with regard to air mobility we will work in the following areas:
- development of new technologies and methodologies for aircraft;
- identification of alternative logistics;
- definition of guidelines for autonomous or single-pilot driving systems in urban air mobility.
With the same approach, we will deal with road vehicles; in fact, we will be engaged in activities such as:
- redesigning the architecture of electric or hydrogen vehicles with a view to connectivity, cooperation and automation;
- definition of new methodologies for integrated design of passenger and freight vehicles and vehicle propulsion systems.
We will then focus on smart infrastructure, with a view to connected, cooperative and automated mobility, with the following objectives:
- increasing the resilience of the system and the transportation network as a whole;
- readiness of transportation networks for the advent of connected and autonomous vehicles and the use of new energy carriers (electric and hydrogen).
The desire to provide support for technological development aimed at sustainability and respect for the environment is certainly a challenging endeavor that Teoresi has decided to pursue with determination.
