For those unfamiliar with the event, Formula SAE is a student engineering competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Teams of university students from around the world design, build, and test small formula-style race cars, which they then compete against each other with.
But don’t just take our word for it – hear from some of the participants themselves about what makes the Formula SAE competition so special.
We wanted to introduce you to some of the talented members of the teams participating in Formula SAE Italy and the Teoresi special award, known as Teorace. These passionate young students, hailing from universities and polytechnics in Italy and abroad, have shared with us what it means to cover a certain role in the team, their passion for the competition, and how their involvement has impacted and will impact their professional and personal lives.
First up, let’s hear from some members of the Unina Corse racing team from Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II!
“Formula SAE has been an amazing opportunity for me to apply the knowledge I’ve gained during the University lessons to a real-world engineering project. It’s one thing to read about engineering concepts in a textbook, but it’s another thing entirely to see those concepts come to life in a vehicle that you’ve designed and built yourself.”
“While dealing with the the entire electronics development process, including PCB design, wiring, and firmware programming, I understood that it is crucial to apply the skills I have learned in class, to gain more practical experience and enhance my professional experience: by actively practicing these skills, I can improve my knowledge, refine my abilities, and ultimately excel in this field.”
Formula SAE is a journey that can transform you both professionally and personally. As I have experienced firsthand, taking on the challenge of developing an autonomous driving system for a race car can push you to new limits, and experience incredible moments as part of a team.
“Leading a Formula Student team is not just about building a race car, it’s about building a team that can work together towards a common goal. Formula SAE is all about dedication, hard work, and overcoming challenges as a group.”
